Formspring 'Agony-Aunting'

Sunday 25 July 2010

I recently received a question on Formspring asking for my advice...

I know that your only 15, do your parents know that you have a blog if so what is there reaction towards it? I'm 14 and I'm thinking of starting one but don't know if my parents will be okay with it.. do you have any advice ?

I thought it was pretty relevant so I'd better post my answer on here...

The truth is my parents don't know about my blog, although this is not because I don't think they would like me having one, but rather I think they would tease me and want to 'get involved' which I avoid wherever I can when it comes to my parents. Your only 14, so I think if you are responsible enough to start your own blog go ahead, but if that is something your parents may be worried about, I suggest you tell them. Explain to them sensibly that you know all about Internet safety and not to post anything too personal. As long as you are 'safe' online, I'm sure your parents will be happy, good luck :)

That's my 'agony-aunting' done for the day :)

  5. I didn't let my parents know for months but then I just told them casually one day. They don't tease me, my dad actually really likes the idea and loves it when a company asks me to review a product.

  6. aw thats such a simple question and yet when you look deeper in to it, its a serious one too! i think you answered very well! i dont live with my mum she lives abroad and knows about my blog, she reads it to keep updated with my life.. my dad however doesnt know about it, simply because ha has no clue about it and what it means or is and i seriously can not be bothered to answer all his silly questions he'd ask about it..
not internet savvy my dad! LOL x

  7. My parents don't know about my blog even though i've had it over a year. The reason i've kept it a secret is because I don't think i'd feel comfortable knowing that people I know are reading it. I don't really know why, I suppose its just quite personal to me!
Great response to the question :)

  8. My parents know but aren't really that interested! But I'm glad they're not because I'd hate for them to be reading all my posts for some reason! Hannah I'm amazed your parents wouldn't have found out with picture-taking etc.

  9. @Louise- Hehe, iv never been asked to review a product so thats not an issue for me :)

@Ana Cristina- Hehehe, same, my dad isnt either! That really sweet that your mum can keep up to date with you through it tho :)

@Caz- Me too, i hate people i know reading my blog, its really personal, and somehow having peiople you dont know read it is better i guess :) Also its kinda embarassing when people who arnt as makeup obsessed as me read it, as i sound a bit stupid :/

@Audrey- Id hate my parents to read my posts! Hehe, i just do it in my room mostly. My sister knows about my blog, and is always trying to find it, but she hasnt yet, i dont think. I dont really want her to read it, its a bit embarassing :)

  13. My parents don't know about my blog not because they wouldn't like it just because I feel it's something that I can do without them and I think they would want to read it and thats embarrassing for me. The only person that knows is my boyfriend because if I didn't do it when he's staying then I wouldn't blog very often at all! x

  14. Aww, Great advice Han,

My parents don't know about my blog, I tried telling my mum once but she doesnt even know how to use the internet so she didnt understand at all!

The only person that knows about my blog (I think any way) Is my bestfriend and we tell each over everything and she comes on to read my posts now and again and thinks it's great :) shes even planning some posts for me to do a guest review :)

Its not that I don't want people to find out I do but I just like it to be private! As for the taking pictures bit my mam just thinks im keeping a portfolio, I suppose that is a way to look at it haha :)

    xx

  15. @Cheryl: Oh to Be a Muse- Aww thanks sweetie, hehe yeah not really a problem for you as a 24 year old :)

@ByJody- Hhehe, i agree, i thinkit a bit embarrasing, and aww does your boyfriend read it?

@Nicola-Samee, i think its private! The only person who i let read it is my friend rachel, just because she has a blog as well! Other than that, i told a few of my friends about it and they kinda teased me so i didnt let them read it! Aww, i just take pictures in my room so they dont know :)

  16. Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your article seem to be running off the screen in Opera.
I'm not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I figured I'd post to let you know.

The layout look great though! Hope you get the problem resolved soon.

    Thanks
